how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a treatment that has been used for many centuries to help people with all manner of problems. It is often confused with stage hypnotism but the application of hypnosis is very different in a therapeutic context. Hypnotherapy utilises the state of trance to relax the client and gain access to the subconscious levels of the mind. In this state of trance it becomes much easier to convey positive suggestions to the subconscious mind that will aid in breaking bad habits or boosting confidence Over the last few years hypnotherapy has moved on from the simple script reading approach. With the introduction of cognitive hypnotherapy, hypnosis is becoming a much more interactive therapy. There is always a consultation period before the hypnosis starts. During the consultation the therapist gains an understanding of the clients’ particular issue. Two people might want to give up smoking but smoke for completely different reasons. By understanding what smoking (or the particular issue) means to that client, the therapist is better able to tailor their positive suggestions towards the individual. Other techniques such as regression, anchoring and learning to release unwanted emotions are also used. The client remains in complete control throughout the session. A hypnotherapist can not make a client think or do anything against their will. A session works best when the client and therapist work together to resolve the particular issue.
